Aggression and violence have a disastrous effect on the learning capacity of deprived children. The author discusses the origins of the anxiety and fear of aggression in these children; an appreciable number carry an excess of traumatic incidents and violent events during their first six years of life. The various defenses utilized by the child against his fears are the elements of the neurotically determined learning disability.
