Abstract
Until recently aging and the aged tended not only to be neglected but to be subject to misconceptions and myths. In this overview the author points out that most of the elderly are emotionally healthy persons who retain the same drives and ego operations that served them earlier. However, old age does precipitate special problems, which the author describes. He discusses psychotherapy and somatic therapies as they apply to the aged, as well as death and dying and the problems faced by the families of elderly persons.Abstract Teaser
