Abstract

A New York prepaid group practice plan offered mental health services to children under age 15 during a 24-month demonstration period. On an annualized rate basis, the psychiatric consultation rate was 12.6 per 1.000 enrollees and the treatment start rate was 8.6 per 1,000. The average number of services per patient during the first 12 months was 14.5. Among the children receiving treatment, 39 percent had another family member who was also in treatment.
