Abstract

The authors present the results of a number of experiments designed to produce depressive behavior in young rhesus monkeys and outline their plans for further experiments with monkeys. These studies are part of a research program aimed at creating an animal model of depression that should make it possible to study the effects of manipulation of the social and biological variables that are thought to be important in human depression.
