Abstract
Questionnaires involving 3,478 renal dialysis patients revealed a higher incidence of suicidal behavior than among the general population. The authors believe that the hemodialysis patient who kills himself does so because of multiple factors—at one time possibly correctable—that combine to form serious emotional conflicts. They urge further studies in this area and note that prolongation of life by artificial means gives rise to ethical dilemmas.Abstract Teaser
