Abstract
Some published results from the European literature regarding the therapeutic and untoward effects of clopenthixol therapy were replicated. Therapeutic response was demonstrated at a daily dosage of 50 mg. An initial drowsiness was noted within a few days of therapy. No laboratory abnormalities were noted. The global impressions of the ward physician were confirmed by the statistical evaluation of the rating data. A significant improvement was demonstrated in this sample of treatment-resistant, chronic female schizophrenics. This has encouraged us to formulate a further, more extensive investigation of clopenthixol in a larger double-blind comparative study.Abstract Teaser
