Abstract

The author compares the findings of a state hospital study of 46 alcoholic women of low socioeconomic status with results of several other studies of alcoholic women from different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. In general, similar psychological conditions existed in all the subjects; the author concludes that a basic psychopathology underlies alcoholism in women.
