Previous studies have demonstrated that severity of language impairment at five years of age is a critical determinant of long-term outcome for young schizophrenic children. Degrees of language impairment were therefore used as the major criteria for this prognostic classification of two-to five-year-old psychotic children. The classification discriminated patients with high and low probabilities of success with drugs and other treatments. it appears that it is also an indicator of long-term prognosis.Abstract Teaser
