Reports in the literature on the Mecholyl test suggest that schizophrenics with a marked reaction to Mecholyl tend to be acute cases with good prognoses, demonstrating relatively good adjustment both preceding and during the psychosis. Schizophrenics with a mild Mecholyl reaction tend to be chronic and/or poor prognostic risks and manifest grossly inadequate premorbid as well as current functioning. The authors note conflicting evidence and identify the problem of test reliability as a primary source of ambiguous data.Abstract Teaser
