Abstract
Increasing demands upon the available manpower in the field of psychiatry have fostered changes in the role of the psychiatric specialist. He is called upon more and more frequently to provide consultation and supervision of direct treatment by other professionals. To investigate the type and extent of preparation for such services now available, a questionnaire survey was conducted of 202 psychiatric training centers. Although 75 percent of these centers do offer some training in consultation techniques, most of it is conducted informally. There is a demonstrated need for greater emphasis on training in consultation procedures among psychiatrists.Abstract Teaser
