Abstract
Survivors and nonsurvivors from a previous multidisciplinary study of community-resident aged men were compared to determine the effects of certain personality factors and critical experiences upon survival and adaptation. The results suggest that survival among this group of aged men may be associated with the individual's self-view and sense of continued usefulness as well as with such physical factors as chronic cigarette smoking and arteriosclerosis.Abstract Teaser
