Abstract
A study of 117 patients with "organic brain" syndrome seen in consultation over a 4-year period indicated that this syndrome is associated with a poor prognosis. A high mortality rate, frequent subsequent psychiatric hospitalization, and frequent dementia were noted on follow-up. Significant anatomical and chemical abnormalities were found in most of those who died and were autopsied to provide an explanation for the psychiatric illness.Abstract Teaser
