Phenoxypropazine is compared with amitryptiline in the treatment of 78 hospitalised patients suffering from primary depressive disorders. Most patients on either drug responded well, there being no significant difference in outcome between the 2 drug groups. Endogenous and reactive depressions showed no difference in response to phenoxypropazine. Side effects were few and did not interfere with treatment. It is considered that phenoxypropazine is a useful antidepressant of equal effectiveness to amitryptiline.Abstract Teaser
