Abstract

We have isolated a compound which is probably responsible for the observation of false-positive phenothiazine tests not attributable to acute or chronic liver disease, phenylketonuria, high salicylate or other drug intake(6). Since the isolated compound produces color with nitric acid it may interfere with Forrests' FPN reagent (7) and Neve's test(8). The isolated compound is not a bile pigment, a phenol, an indole or a pyridine.
