Scientific precision has far too often been consciously excluded from classical psychoanalysis, because Freud rejected it. In consequence, classical psychoanalysis has assumed many of the trappings of a religion, and lost many of the essential characteristics of a science. Two anti-scientific trends in the field, defensive secrecy and arrogant "elitism," seem to have occurred in part as a result of perpetuation of this lack of precision.Abstract Teaser
