Abstract

This report illustrates one case where a potent, new, non-barbiturate sedative (glutethimide) proved to be addicting to a predisposed alcoholic with an underlying schizophrenic illness. It emphasizes, however, the danger of addiction that this drug possesses, which in this patient was greater than alcohol, barbiturates, or any of the tranquilizing medications.
