Abstract

1. Sixty-two patients on a mental hospital "back" ward were treated by electroshock and by manipulation of the attitudes in their environment.2. At least 25 patients showed more cooperation, better care of self, and better control of activity.3. The ward staff responded to the treatment program even more favorably than the patients.4. It is possible to eliminate the "back" ward idea by providing appropriate attention.
