Abstract
Reports on day hospitalization have usually endorsed this treatment modality without considering its special problems. This paper discusses such problems. How can a hospitalized patient be evaluated fully and his behavior supervised properly if he is home most of the time? What difficulties are encountered in getting patients simply to come and go each day? Which patients are most troublesome for a day hospital? What are the causes of failure of day hospitalization? The author presents relevant data and practical recommendations.
